Fab talk: On choosing the lesser evil

from CNN Philippines

Come to think of it, not all of the presidentiables are perfect, for they have their own faults too.

but the question is, who is the much better evil?

Here's my say on certain issues from the presidentiables:

Grace Poe: I've always admired her for standing up because of the traffic issues and the grueling situation in our mass transit, especially in our railways. As a commuter, it's a big hit for me and I think this should be resolved big time.

But her running for candidacy for only having a limited experience in the government, for lying for her husband's profession and her alliance with the businessmen/Marcos cronies makes me think twice. At the back of my mind, it makes me think of this other rumor - that she is the illegitimate son of former president Ferdinand Marcos to Susan Roces' sister, Rosemarie Sonora. (and may I add, there's an uncanny resemblance between Grace Poe and Marcos, thoughts?)

Jejomar Binay - I've been working in Makati for almost 3 years now and I admit that I feel safe here than in Manila, in Pasig and in Ortigas (where I worked before). It is indeed the most walkable city for me and the Binays did great - pero yung totoo?

the alleged corruption issues and his astounding wealth makes me think of voting for him. As a taxpayer, I always complain on where the taxes has gone. but if my taxes will be going straight to their pockets then it's a big NO.

Rodrigo Duterte
- Sure, he has done great things for Davao but as I researched more about him, I realized that he has done more harm than good.

For one, his Davao Death Squad, who is known for exterminating criminals. But there are innocents being harmed including children. His womanizing is another thing, the reason why his ex-wife filed for annulment against him. And now this sickening rape joke that is now circulating online. Then there's this interview of giving away the West Philippine Sea to the Chinese in exchange for railway trains.

His sudden declaration for presidency is one big pabebe. I had doubts ever since. It's so sad that many are blinded by the thought of having him as a president just because of his macho demeanor and his so-called "political will". He doesn't even have a clear platform on what to do to this country, except for clearing out the criminals and nothing more.

So two choices left - and it's Miriam Defensor Santiago and Manuel Araneta Roxas.

Miriam Defensor Santiago has all the qualifications and the iron will to serve and to lead the people. She has the most feasible platform, but her health makes me think otherwise. And her support for her runningmate, the dictator's son who is now running for the second highest post is simply a big no for me. Many lives lost during martial law. My family, relatives and friends who encountered Martial law saw the wrath that has happened years back. It must've been hard to live at those times where the freedom of speech has been stopped. As a blogger, this is the most important.

So...is Mar Roxas the much-lesser evil that deserves our vote?

Most of the people has judged Mar Roxas' capability as the presidential aspirant because of issues, mostly tied up with his alliance with PNOY. His arrogance, especially during Yolanda has been seen online, but why blaming him alone and not the people around him for the incompetencies in the government?

I consider him as my president for he never had any corruption issues as opposed to what others had said. His competence as the former DTI secretary is astounding as he bought the BPO industry here in the country, I can give him a fair grade during his stint as the DILG secretary, but we can't blame just one person because of this and the Yolanda incident happened weeks after the Bohol earthquake. No one can take care of the series of calamities alone, for it needs the help of both the national and local government. I value his frankness, his political will and respect to all despite the allegations and disrespect from the people supporting other candidates. Added to that is his feasible platform, his continuity of the plans created by the previous administration and his plans for the future-ready Philippines.

With all the presidentiables that I mentioned, who is the lesser evil that deserves your vote?
